This was too funny not to share.

It is worth watching to the end to watch her shake her head in the bridge position.

    that was... educating

i'm so glad we're past that though lol.
maybe in 100 years people will watch vids of some of the (worst) dancers of our times and think we all danced that way... ugh, hope not!

btw. anyone else kept getting distracted by her costume?
    ill-fitting bra....

"Istanbul, Constantinople, even New York was once Amsterdam...", huh?????
I have been made to dance to some weird music but I feel sorry for her... Or is that a remake?
Regarding that bra...- a largely endowed friend told me the lady at the brassiere shop has told her, big bras have to be really tight in the underbust width otherwise her tits will fall out from under the bottom seam (???) I did not know the same goes for small bellydance bras too. Sorry to be this explicit, maybe I should have just agreed on the "educational" bit. ; )

The music is They Might Be Giants- way after the time this clip was made. :)

It wouldn't surprise me if the original audio to the clip was lost and they chose They Might Be Giants instead.

But I am certainly curious out of which archive this, um, gem was pulled.

actually the original version is from the four lads, it was recorded on 1953 .
But i read somewhere that it was actually written in 1929, but that version is indeed from they might be giants =)
lol , am I the only one who really liked this song? I'd love to do a jazzy bellydance coreo out of this...such fun!

The Istanbul song is a spoof on "Puttin' on the Ritz," which according to Wikipedia, was written in 1929 by Irving Berlin. So you're right, the original song was written in 1929.

I totally think you could do a jazzy, tongue-in-cheek belly dance choreo to this song.

You know things have greatly improved when I can look at it as a near beginner and say I know I can do better than that.

The music is great for a tongue in cheek piece. I wonder who she is, how old she is, and what she is doing now?
So many really older ladies must have really wonderful histories.

I recently read "Looking for Little Egypt" by Donna Carlton. She chronicles the history of bellydance starting with the Chicago World's Fair in the 1890's. This lady reminded me of some of the pictures that were in that book. Her dancing reminded me, too, of the vaudevillian or sideshow aspect of that first dance "exhibition" in Chicago. The acrobatics seem like they would be part of those shows. I bet that was pretty scandalous for its time.
