Sat, May 10, 2008 - 11:09 AMHey Cera,
Very interesting piece. Though you do have some really beautiful flowy, watery movments, I'm not sure I would have guessed mermaid either.
Was there anything in particular that made you want to do a mermaid-inspired dance? Maybe you can shed some light on the belly dance-mermaid connection.

Re: Mermaid bellydancers - darker tribal
Sat, May 10, 2008 - 9:19 PMLOVE it! and the pants.
First, the choreo: It's beautiful, fun, elegant, surprising. I love the trajectory, the friction, the almost fiction.
Second, the pants. I must see a picture.
love.

Mon, May 12, 2008 - 6:15 PMgotta second the pants request-- that was a really cool dance, loved the movements and the music, but those mermaidian pants rock the house. or should i say, the ocean. -

Mon, May 12, 2008 - 1:15 PMCera--that was cool to watch. I especially love the wonderful unusual frames and shapes in that choreography. And your pants WERE great! My troupe is doing a thoroughly different spin on the Mermaid theme at TF this year. Thanks for sharing yours. -

Re: Mermaid bellydancers - darker tribal
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 7:06 PMn.o.madic tribal (my troupe) did an ode to Oya in all blue/green costumes in Jan 2005. (later that year, Katrina hit and sent us all in different directions so the next year for our big ensemble piece, we did an earthy/sandy piece).
here's a pic of the blue/green:

and a link to a piece of the vid. You'll have to excuse the music quality....it was shot with a point/shoot camera:
