Re: Is this a dead tribe?
Wed, November 4, 2009 - 10:24 AMI think it's on life support, like so many other tribes. I think tribe is just about dead.

Re: Is this a dead tribe?
Wed, November 4, 2009 - 8:59 PMI think that they all are in the process of dying. Since the last major outage, I've noticed that all of the tribes that used to be pretty active have slowed greatly. I think people are taking their attention elsewhere.

Re: Is this a dead tribe?
Thu, November 5, 2009 - 9:22 AMSeems like, yeah. I used to enjoy this tribe a lot when I first joined but then for a while it looked like it had been taken over by a small group of very dogmatic people who lacked a sense of humour and criticised or ignored everyone who did not meet their ideas of the "proper style". You could not even post a funny video anymore without having the dance technique trashed and alI that.I got so bored and disgusted that I left for about half a year or so. People like you, Norma, made me come back.
But then, I can only take so much of repetitive info about bellydance before I get bored and am now mostly on tribes where there is no bellydance at all but one can actually relate to people talking about "real life". Different strokes for different folks.
But yeah, after the most recent horrible exception series, tribe seems to be deader than ever which is a shame because I just can't ind anything appealing about facebook other than using it as sort of an address book for certain people I may wanna contact one day. -

Re: Is this a dead tribe?
Thu, November 5, 2009 - 3:12 PMIt's as dead as you want it to be, or as lively. I don't go to ning or facebook very much, so it is really nice to see folks still posting videos here as well. -

Re: Is this a dead tribe?
Sun, November 8, 2009 - 6:15 PMSigh. Unfortunately I think Tribe is dead. Maybe some of the outages had something to do with it, I don't know. To me, it was the people that attracted me and lured me. I know some have abandoned the internet posting forums altogether because of the heat. Others have opened up new networks.
I'm sad, I loved tribe. I used to be pretty user friendly too.
Some forums are still going strong but so many of them are too inactive. Did tribe grow to big? Is it too scattered? Should we reduce tribe forums to make this thing work?
All I know is most of my friends don't check in to tribe anymore and some tribe members have started their own forums on facebook, etc.
Frankly, I'm tired of posting new videos or new info and not getting a response for months on end. It takes me hours to convert a VHS tape to youtube. -

Re: Is this a dead tribe?
Sun, November 8, 2009 - 10:41 PMpart of the reason is that tribe became too unreliable for dancers who were using it as a personal website and using it to get information out about a performance, event or cause. for all practical purposes many of these dancers felt they had no choice but to go to more stable networking sites in order to draw in the crowds with the most up-to-date pertinent information. generally bellydance info is still posted on tribe but mainly, it seems, as an afterthought.
it's too bad. there are wonderful gracious individuals who really go all out to provide some good information or tasty vids.... but by the time the site became stable the bellydance exodus had begun.
and yes, some overly serious "purists" had a tendency to quash all conversation and dialogue. but even they perhaps wanted the ability to self-edit or delete certain posts after further consideration... -

Re: Is this a dead tribe?
Mon, November 9, 2009 - 3:38 AMyeah, like when one of them finally posted her own video...but never mind. ; ) Those have gone very quiet now.
And Norma, I have watched your videos and I love them. If you think we don't appreciate them if we don't post immediately after, you should check out whether the view counts have suddenly gone up on youtube. I hope, you will stay. I am not running any business through tribe but I enjoy it here. Yes, most of my groups that I post on regularly now are dance un-related, and yes, one reason for that was initially that at least those other tribe were still active, and not full of "purists" (glad you agree, Muse) or monocultural one-style only dancers.
I don't see how anyone can carry on any interesting conversation on facebook, except in private mail.
