Tue, April 8, 2008 - 5:07 AMWow, that takes a looot of muscle. I have never seen that kind of lying down shimmy before in that position. However, I did notice how she pushed herself off the floor a bit when she got up and I know some dancers who can raise themselves from there without support, with their arms hanging back over their head, a very dramatical move. Not me ! ; ) -

Tue, April 8, 2008 - 9:39 AMThe video Lisa posted recently about interesting floorwork, the dancer there also does a lying-down shimmy. She's in a slightly different position and does it far less gracefully, but floor shimmies are an old American cabaret standard move. Ansuya does it all the time:

But Ansuya doesn't seem to have the incredible spinal flexibility this dancer has.
It's also taught on several floorwork DVDs. I know for sure it's on the Floorwork for Body Sculpting DVD:
